Finishing Equipment

Stenter / Drying & Finishing Machine

A stenter is a drying and finishing machine that holds the fabric by its edges and carries it through drying and heat treatment chambers. Fabric width, dimensional balance and finish applications are controlled with this equipment.

01 / About the System

What is Stenter / Drying & Finishing Machine

In a stenter the fabric is held at its edges by pin or clip chains and moves through heated chambers. It is dried and brought to the wanted width on the way.

Width control aims to bring the width that the fabric has shrunk or widened to after washing or printing back to the target width. Chamber temperatures, speed and feed affect the dimensional balance of the fabric.

Finishing applications and heat setting can be done on the stenter line according to the fabric and the property wanted. The treatment and parameters depend on the fabric type and the finish recipe.

02 / Applications

Areas of use

  1. 01

    Drying after washing

Drying wet fabric that leaves the washing line and correcting its width.

  2. 02

    Width adjustment

Bringing the fabric to the target width and checking its dimensional balance.

  3. 03

    Heat setting

A heat treatment step on synthetic and blended fabrics, where the process and the fabric suit it.

  4. 04

    Finishing applications

Finish treatments that give the fabric the handle and properties wanted.

The right width, temperature and finish conditions are confirmed with trial passes for each fabric.

03 / System Structure

Process flow

  1. 01Fabric Entry

    Fabric entry

The fabric is taken into the machine held by its edges.

  2. 02Drying

    Drying

The fabric passes through heated chambers and is dried.

  3. 03Width Control

    Width adjustment

The fabric is brought to the target width and balanced dimensionally.

  4. 04Finishing and Exit

    Finishing and exit

The required finish or heat treatment is applied; the fabric is cooled and leaves the line.

Chamber temperatures, speed and finish parameters vary with the fabric and the property wanted.

04 / Process

Supply and Commissioning Process

A stenter is the drying and finishing step that follows washing and printing processes, so it is planned together with the fabric flow and its neighbouring machines. Once the fabric type and the finish need are clear, supply, installation and commissioning steps are addressed.

  1. 01

    Needs assessment

The fabric types, the target width and finish need, and the washing and feeding equipment in the line are identified.

  2. 02

    System configuration

The chamber layout, the fabric holding structure and the finish application need are defined according to the fabric and the process.

  3. 03

    Supply

It is clarified whether the supply scope covers only the stenter or also auxiliary equipment such as feeding, exhaust and cooling.

  4. 04

    Installation

The energy need of the stenter, the exhaust arrangement and the length-dependent layout in the line are addressed in the installation plan.

  5. 05

    Commissioning

In trial passes with fabric, drying, width and handle results are assessed together.

  6. 06

    Technical support

After commissioning, a technical service request can be created for drying, width control or fabric holding issues.
