01 / About the Ink

What is water-based ink

In water-based ink the colouring agents are carried in a system that uses water as the carrier. The suitable material and ink series are chosen according to the application.

Because the carrier is water, the water has to be removed after printing. Drying temperature and time are adjusted to the material's water-absorption behaviour and the ink series.

Ink selection is not made on its own; it is assessed together with machine configuration, print head, the material being printed and drying conditions.

02 / Applications

Applications

  1. 01

    Textile printing

Printing on fabric surfaces with a suitable ink series.

  2. 02

    Paper printing

Graphic and image printing applications on paper surfaces.

  3. 03

    Samples and prototypes

Short prints for pattern trials and sample production.

  4. 04

    Short-run production

Low and medium volume print jobs; suitability is determined by the material.

Material suitability and drying conditions are verified with a test print in each application.

03 / Process

The ink's place in the process

  1. 01Preparation

    Preparation

Colour settings are prepared for the image file and the material.

  2. 02Printing

    Printing

The image is printed onto the material with water-based ink.

  3. 03Drying

    Drying

The carrier water is removed; time and temperature are adjusted to the material.

  4. 04Finishing

    Finishing

Steps such as fixation or cutting are applied if needed.

Drying temperature and time are determined by the material and the ink series.

    How Is Ink-Machine Compatibility Evaluated?

Ink-machine compatibility is the evaluation, both before and after installation, of whether a given ink series will run smoothly with a machine's print head and feeding system.
