TrueHue Eco-Solvent Inks

Eco-solvent inks are used in wide-format advertising and graphics applications with a solvent-based carrier. The ink dries by bonding to the media surface; results depend on the media and drying conditions.

01 / About the Ink

What is eco-solvent ink

Eco-solvent ink is an ink class in which the pigment is carried in a solvent-based medium. During printing the carrier interacts with the coating on the media surface, and as the solvent evaporates the pigment is fixed on the surface.

Because fixation relies on the media surface rather than on penetrating a textile fibre, the class is used on vinyl, banner material and similar coated surfaces more than on textiles. For outdoor use, the media and the ink series are assessed together.

Removing solvent vapour from the print area is part of the process. Ink selection is considered together with machine configuration, print head, media and drying conditions.

02 / Applications

Applications

  1. 01

    Banners and flex media

Wide-format prints on flexible media for indoor and outdoor use.

  2. 02

    Vehicle graphics

Vehicle wrap and decoration work on adhesive vinyl.

  3. 03

    Posters and wall graphics

Poster and wall prints for retail, exhibition and interior spaces.

  4. 04

    Labels and decals

Label and decal prints on adhesive vinyl.

Media type, outdoor expectations and drying conditions are verified with a test print in each application.

03 / Process

The ink's place in the process

  1. 01Profile Preparation

    Profile preparation

A colour profile and RIP settings suited to the media are prepared.

  2. 02Printing

    Printing

The solvent-based ink is printed in wide format onto roll media.

  3. 03Drying

    Drying

The solvent evaporates and the pigment is fixed on the media surface; time varies with the media.

  4. 04Finishing

    Finishing

Steps such as lamination, cutting and assembly are applied according to the product.

Drying time and waiting conditions are determined by the media and the ink series.

What Is Eco-Solvent Ink and Where Is It Used?

Eco-solvent ink is a system where pigment carried in a solvent-based medium settles into the material's surface coating and fixes as the solvent evaporates; because of this, it's used on coated surfaces like vinyl and banner material rather than textiles, mainly in outdoor applications.

    How Is Ink-Machine Compatibility Evaluated?

Ink-machine compatibility is the evaluation, both before and after installation, of whether a given ink series will run smoothly with a machine's print head and feeding system.
